Understanding PayPal's Fee Structure
PayPal is one of the most widely used payment processors globally, but its fee structure can be complex. Depending on your account type, the transaction's origin, and the currency used, the amount you actually receive can vary significantly. Standard Transaction Rates (2024)
Domestic Transactions
Typically 2.9% of the transaction amount + a fixed fee (around $0.30 USD). This applies when both the sender and receiver are in the same country.
International Transactions
Often 4.4% of the transaction amount + a fixed fee. Note that currency conversion rates may also apply, further reducing the final amount.
How to Lower Your Processing Fees
- Non-Profit Status: Verified 501(c)(3) organizations can qualify for significantly lower rates.
- Micropayments: If you sell items under $10, you can apply for a special micropayment rate (5% + $0.05).
- Higher Volume: If you process over $3,000 monthly, you may be eligible to apply for PayPal's Merchant Rate.
