Understanding EPF & ETF in Sri Lanka

In Sri Lanka, the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) and Employees' Trust Fund (ETF) are mandatory social security schemes that ensure financial stability for private-sector employees. Whether you are an employer ensuring compliance or an employee wanting to verify your take-home pay, accurate calculation is essential.

Current Statutory Rates (2024)

  • Employee Share (EPF): 8%
  • Employer Share (EPF): 12%
  • Employer Share (ETF): 3%

The "Total Cost to Company" (CTC)

Your CTC is not just your gross salary. It includes the 15% (12% EPF + 3% ETF) that your employer contributes on top of your gross pay. Our tool calculates this instantly.

EPF & ETF Compliance Tips

  • Due Dates: Contributions must be paid to the respective funds by the 15th of the following month to avoid penalties.
  • Earnings Inclusion: EPF/ETF are calculated on "Total Earnings," which includes basic salary, fixed allowances, and piece-rate payments (but usually excludes overtime).
  • Withdrawal: EPF can generally be withdrawn upon retirement (age 55 for men, 50 for women) or under specific circumstances like medical needs or housing.
